Lane Centering
Continuous steering assistance keeps the vehicle centered in the lane instead of waiting until it drifts toward the edge.
If your vehicle is compatible, we can help turn its factory steering and cruise-control hardware into a much more capable driver-assistance experience: lane centering, adaptive cruise, driver monitoring, and supported hands-off / eyes-on highway assistance — without buying a new car.
Current openpilot documentation describes the system as an open-source driver-assistance system that can provide adaptive cruise control, automated lane centering, driver monitoring, and related assistance on supported makes, models, years, and configurations.
Continuous steering assistance keeps the vehicle centered in the lane instead of waiting until it drifts toward the edge.
On supported configurations, the system manages speed and following distance and can control acceleration and braking within the supported operating envelope.
Camera-based monitoring is designed to detect distraction or sleepiness while assistance is engaged. The driver still supervises the road.
Current comma product materials list lane-change assistance as part of the supported openpilot driving experience.
Compatibility depends on the exact make, model, year, trim, factory driver-assistance package, and sometimes the market the vehicle was sold in. The quick checker below includes a small set of currently verified examples. Anything else goes to manual review against the official supported-car list.
This checker is intentionally conservative. A “likely match” is still verified against the current official support list before installation.
These are only sample vehicles surfaced by the current comma homepage and vehicle pages, not the full compatibility list.
comma’s current setup guide labels the core installation as a 15-minute, five-step process. A professional service should add pre-check, clean cable routing, software setup, calibration, and a supervised road test rather than treating “plug it in” as the whole job.
Confirm make, model, year, trim, factory driver-assistance package, harness, and current supported-car status.
Connect the supported harness at the factory camera / ADAS interface and route the required cable cleanly.
Position the device correctly on the windshield and complete required power / OBD connections for the supported setup.
Install the current supported software, select the correct configuration, and allow the system to calibrate as required.
Confirm engagement, lane-centering behavior, cruise operation, driver monitoring, alerts, and safe disengagement with the owner.
Many compatible cars already have the steering, radar, camera, braking, or cruise hardware needed for modern driver assistance, but the stock experience can be more limited or less integrated.
openpilot can replace or augment parts of the supported factory driver-assistance stack with continuous lane centering, adaptive cruise behavior, driver monitoring, and supported lane-change assistance.
NHTSA describes combined lane-centering and adaptive-cruise systems as Level 2 driving assistance, where the driver must remain engaged and alert. The current comma homepage similarly markets a hands-off, eyes-on experience rather than driverless operation.
Eyes on the road, ready to take over, and responsible for complying with traffic laws and system limitations.
Year, trim, factory equipment, market and software support matter. “Has lane keep” is not enough by itself.
System behavior varies by car. Some supported configurations replace factory lateral or longitudinal control while preserving other safety features; exact notes must be checked per vehicle.
This installation-service concept is independent. It should not claim to be comma.ai or an authorized installer unless that relationship is formally established.
Send the exact vehicle information and current driver-assistance equipment. The installer can verify the official support notes and the required harness before confirming an installation.
Start with the exact year, make, model, trim, and factory driver-assistance package.
